There are two common kidney disorders due to infections. They are as follows, Glomerulonephritis and Bacterial pyelo-nephritis. Chronic kidney infection is an advanced stage of kidney infection and could damage the kidneys permanently if not attended to as early as possible. Bacterial pyelo-nephritis is normally caused by organisms that cause lower Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), while Glomerulonephritis is causd by a common factor called Strep infection.

A proven fact is that most women have suffered from some form of UTI, and bladder infection, being the most common of the lot. A woman’s anatomical make up has her more prone to infections of this type. But that doesn’t mean chronic UTIs are a part of her anatomical or genetic features.

Symptoms:

A person suffering from chronic kidney infection would have the following symptoms. Frequent urination, Pain while urinating; Foul smelling urine and Cloudy urine. We shall now see the symptoms of chronic kidney infection in a more detailed approach.

  • The patient suffers from high fever. The National Institute of Health states that a person’s body temperatures would exceed above 102 degrees if he has a kidney infection, as it is prone to rise the body temperature abnormally.
  • The patient will experience severe Night-Sweats and will shiver a lot with chills at night.
  • Vomiting and nausea would definitely prevail in a person affected by chronic kidney infection .This is an indication that the infection has progressed into the kidneys and requires immediate medication and attention.
  • Back Pain as we know is a common symptom of any kind of kidney infection. Chronic kidney infection causes intense back pain on the lower back and the entire groin area too.

Diagnosis:

Chronic kidney infections are diagnosed by the following ways:

Glomerulonephritis can be diagnosed through a few tests of kidney function and by a    series of assessments in order to determine whether protein is being sent through the urine or not.

While Bacterial Pyleo-neohritis can be diagnosed by assessing the clinical history which   includes fever, back pain and chills, clinical exam which refers to the tenderness of the kidney.

Treatment:

The treatment for Glomerulonephritis consists of antibiotics based on the bacterial infection and rest is compulsory. The treatment could last for a couple of weeks during which, several tests that include blood test, blood pressure, and urine tests are conducted in order to determine if the kidneys are back to normal. Restriction of sodium and protein is a must.

The treatment for bacterial pyelo-nephritis comprises of measures that are very essential to eliminate bacteria from the body through antibiotics that are administered orally or intravenously in order to correct any sort of obstruction. Long-term antibiotic therapy might be suggested incase it’s difficult to eliminate obstruction and when recurrent infections are quite common.
